I used Dash in a game this very night. He did not last very long, but I had fun using him while he lasted.

He was working with a pair of humans who were Coalition-allied copies of the Player Characters from a parallel universe. Dash and his buddies were made to believe that the PCs were vampires, so they were plotting some anti-vampire kills. A fusion block trap disabled the PC's vehicle as it drove past, and Dash laid down laser fire at the vehicle immediately afterwards. The PCs blocked his line of fire with a smoke grenade and then two of the PCs rushed Dash through that smoke. He was able to get off a shot as the incoming Crazy, but the City Rat's well-placed vibro-throwing knife made quick work of poor Dash's head. His impressive speed never became a factor. Dash was only supposed to cause a distraction while two stealthy types sneaked up on the PCs from behind. The sneakers managed to inflict one casualty before they were disabled by a blinding flash spell and also killed.

Dash, we hardly knew you.

This brings me back. My first RIFTS character was a Coalition dogboy. He lasted one session and got killed by the other PCs because he was the only one who didn't want to betray the Coalition.

My second character was a burster. He did much, much better.

Cool, so you were the only one actually role playing your character.. That can be frustrating..

The GM was pretty impressed. I don't remember how character creation went in that system now, but I think he gave my burster a few extra goodies to reward me.

Now the burster, named Smolder, was fun. He kicked a lot of ass!

Cool. I think it's difficult for beginners to grasp the concept of an RPG without falling into the 'win' mentality; that 'win' mentality common to other types of games leads to an us vs. the G.M. scenario where nobody gets to have fun.

I've run games where we went three four hour sessions with no combat and everybody had fun. It's about the story, not the dice rolls or the action..

Absolutely! That's why I made an effort to include 'roleplaying' talents in my system- stuff that has no game effect but helps a character advance his or her storyline.

Thanks. I'm actually thinking of redoing them, making them more parallel to each other; that fits the official artwork better.
